Whiskers on Mittens

Ten birch shelving units were produced for “Pentimenti”, a show on process in contemporary architecture in Canada. Each shelf held one of Bill Pechet’s sketchbooks.

A musical windup melody apparatus was inserted into each of the shelves and could be played while looking through the books. The saccharine tunes chosen from pop songs and classics took on a rather strange quality when more than one was played simultaneously. John Cage meets Ikea.
