A series of pattern molds serve as indices of some of the bronze, steel and aluminum casting systems used in the ship-building industries of Western Canada. Our studio playfully combined these relics into a variety of taxonomies to emphasize their formal and actual attributes. Extracted from their original use, they now become wonderful 3-dimensional objects; partly recognizable and partly enigmatic. These have been placed in a public foyer of a new community space in North Vancouver’s Shipyards to be enjoyed by everyone.
