This study examined options for gravesites and columbaria in a courtyard of an existing mausoleum. Located on the western side of Olmstead’s Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, the study revealed opportunities for up to 90 graves and over 2000 Columbaria while preserving some of the beautiful magnolia trees on the site.

A new forecourt with ceremonial hand-washing basin was also proposed as a space where mourners could gather before and after the burial ceremony. This space could also function as a location for funerals for those interred in an urn.
