Ponte Bong

Located in the southeast False Creek area of Vancouver, this bridge provides a pedestrian link to a water-play mound situated in the centre of a naturalized wetland environment. The area manages rainwater runoff from the surrounding neighbourhoods while providing natural habitat to a wide variety of plant and animal species.

The bridge was inspired by the idea that the classic infrastructure of this 20th century city can be seen as redundant now, so why not cut holes in it and make it playful? Ponte Bong is our nickname for the bridge.

The lead consultant on the overall project was PWL Partnership Landscape Architects who were retained by the City of Vancouver to design and implement the central community park in southeast False Creek, known as “Hinge Park”. In collaboration with Pechet Studios (formerly Pechet and Robb Art and Architecture), the project combined references to the former City Works Yard site with the creation of an innovative children’s playground.
